Dolpo beyond the Himalayas  in the far North – western Nepal is also known as "Ba Yul" or the hidden valley lies in Shey Phoksundo National Park. The region is accessible by one of the most remote off – the - beaten trek routes in Nepal.

Dolpo region has some prominent  monasteries deditcated to ancient Bon Po religion and the oldest form of Tibetan Ningmapa Bhuddhsit sect. There are about 130 Bon and Bhuddhist monasteries in Dolpo region. Some prominent monasteries among them are Shey, Samaling, Ringmo Gumba etc.  Dolpo is still the homeland of the Spotted Leopard, Blue Sheep, wolves, and many other varieties of flora and fauna. Dolpa is a treasured  sanctuary of medicinal plants,  about 407 species grow. Local Aamchis (traditional healer) still use them. Yarchagumbu (Coerdiopsis sinensis) a wild mushroom turned from larvae is also found in abundance in the slopes of the mountains here.

Trekking into this region resembles the high and isolated Himalayan valleys of Tibetan plateau. “Shey Phoksundo Lake” is another prominent factor of this region. The lake looks free of aqua life, which the crystal waters clearly explain. Stunning views of the Himalayan range of Kanjiroba, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain peaks are  unforgettable memory.
